LYNNMALL SHOPPING CENTRE & BOTANY TOWN CENTRE BEGINS SEARCH FOR AUCKLAND’S BEST MUSICAL BUSKERS

He discovered Hayley Westenra, Yulia, Annabel Fay, Elizabeth Marvelly and Will Martin, and with more than 35 successful years in the music industry here and around the world, Gray Bartlett is keeping his eyes peeled for musical talent at the first LynnMall Shopping Centre and Botany Town Centre Best Buskers Competition.

This month, LynnMall and Botany Town Centre are inviting people of all ages and musical abilities to audition at the centre for a chance to win special busking licences to perform during the Christmas shopping period.

“Over the years, I have been told I have an eye for talent, and I am always excited about finding that special group or person who ignites the audience and shows that they have got it,” says Gray Bartlett. “Each year, more than 400 potential stars from all corners of the world contact me directly or through my website www.graybartlett.com, and I never tire of seeing and hearing what they have to offer. I look forward to judging some great Kiwi talent at the LynnMall and Botany Centre Best Buskers Competition.”

One lucky finalist will not only receive a busking licence, but will also be considered for inclusion on Gray Bartlett’s new CD, to be released next year.

AMP Capital Shopping Centres senior marketing manager Desiree Clark says the search for Auckland’s best busking talent provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the musical flair of the local community. “The competition will give buskers a chance to get one step closer to fame and earn a bit of cash along the way. We look forward to seeing the calibre of talent that comes through both centres on audition day. The variety of buskers performing over the Christmas period will be a welcome addition to the festive atmosphere at the centre.”

Make-A-Wish New Zealand is the official charity of the Best Buskers Competition, and will be collecting gold coin donations at the open auditions to grant a special Christmas wish for a seriously ill Kiwi kid. “We are very excited to be part of the competition which will create magic for buskers and wish kids alike,” says Scott Simpson, CEO Make-A-Wish New Zealand.

To enter, buskers can register their interest at the either centre’s Customer Services Kiosk before the open audition day, email info@ampbotany.co.nz, phone 09 272 3888, or turn up on the day to register. All buskers need to be registered by one hour before the audition begins.
