Nominations for candidates wishing to stand in the Central Otago District Council by-elections open this Wednesday.

Two positions are needing to be filled; one councillor for the Earnscleugh Manuherikia Ward and one member for the Roxburgh Community Board.

Kara Leckie, Electoral Officer, says anyone wishing to stand as a candidate should get their nominations in now. Anyone over the age of 18 can stand for election, as long as they are a New Zealand citizen and enrolled on the electoral roll.

Nominations close on Wednesday, at 12 noon on 22 December.

Voting papers will be sent out from 19 January 2011 and must be mailed to the council by midday on Election Day, 10 February.

Candidate Information Packs with nomination forms will be available this Wednesday at the Council office and Roxburgh Service Centre. For further information on standing as a candidate visit the council’s website - www.codc.govt.nz/information/elections or contact the Electoral Officer.
