HAMILTON

Work has started on the one of the most significant features of the Hamilton V8 street circuit. Pit Lane will cover a 280m long area located on the south side of Mill St between Hinemoa Park and Fraser Tech Rugby Club.

Foundations are being laid for what will become the platform for the pit garages and race control structures. The garages themselves are temporary structures that will be erected just prior to event time.

Significant excavation works are currently underway to prepare the area for sealing and this is to include the development of a sophisticated environmental drainage system as well as electrical, phone and water services.

The Pit Lane ground surface will be a patchwork of coloured and textured concrete sections. Landscape mitigation plans are being developed for the site in consultation with landscape artists and in addition public art is being planned to ensure aesthetic appeal and to encourage public usage and accessibility during non-event times. The area will also incorporate cycle lanes and pedestrian walkways that will ultimately link Hinemoa Park to Founders Theatre.

Work on Pit Lane is planned to be complete by mid January 2008. Work in this area will be visible but is not anticipated to cause traffic disruption.
