Bidvest Wanaka Crowned King of the Sausage

WANAKA

The challenge was on for nation’s best snarler last week in Auckland. With over 400 sausages on the chopping board the heat was on.

Brendon Wilson manager of Bidvest’s Mediterranean Wholesale Market in Wanaka and his German 30 year master sausage maker, Simon Tiefenbach were named the supreme winners with their Pork and Fennel gourmet sausage. In total, they came away the Supreme Award, three golds and one silver metal. Everyone is sizzling with the good news.

Simon says, "Butchery is in my family, my grandfather was a butcher and my mother and uncle both worked for him. I was qualified in Germany where I obtained a Masters of Butchery following my apprenticeship. From there I was head hunted to run a chain of 20 supermarket butcheries.  

He goes on to say, “My personal favourite is the Pork, Garlic and Fresh Parsley gourmet sausage which also collected gold, but I believe people have different tastes which is why I created 15 flavours all stocked in the store. The key is high quality, fresh ingredients. My dream is to supply the winning sausage throughout New Zealand. I would like every Bidvest rep and their customers to try one, furthermore, giving their customers the opportunity as well.”
