Fatal crash - Orari

At midday on Wednesday the 8th of December 2010, emergency services were called to a crash on State Highway One at Orari. The crash involved a light 4x4 vehicle heading south and a north bound Bus. These vehicles collided head on.

As a result the 58 year old driver and sole occupant of the 4x4 died at the scene. Two passengers and the driver of the Bus were transported to Timaru hospital with moderate injuries. The road was closed for 5 hours while a member of the serious crash unit from Christchurch investigated the scene.

Alcohol and speed were not believed to be contributing factors in the crash. The name of the deceased is yet to be released while next of kin are notified.
