BOTANY 107.1 FM SET TO OPEN AT BOTANY TOWN CENTRE
Botany Town Centre will soon open a new community radio station from within the heart of the centre. Botany FM (107.1FM) begins broadcasting from Monday 20 December and will serve as the local community’s information and entertainment source.
Community radio brings together the interests, views and news of a local community and gives young broadcasting hopefuls an opportunity to get a taste of the industry. Botany FM will cater for an audience consisting of up to 90,000 people from as far south as Redoubt Road, east as Howick, Sylvia Park and Pakuranga and north as Whitford and Beachlands.
Behind the launch of this new community based radio station is businessman, and radio veteran broadcaster John Lehmann, who says, “Broadcasting encompasses a wide array of skills from sales and marketing, technical and news gathering, to sitting behind the microphone, which our locals can take part in. With a bit of talkback, news, views, and a lot of fun - the way Kiwi radio use to be. The main thrust will be the best music from the 60s to the 90s, catering for the mums and dads.”
We’ll have Madame Eva giving horoscopes, our professional local announcers giving fishing and boating news, local news and entertainment of local interest and producing our music line up. AMP Capital Shopping Centres (which owns Botany Town Centre) are top people and have been incredibly helpful,” John says. ‘’In all my years in business, I have never seen a company (AMPCSC) so community minded, it’s wonderful. We share a common goal to serve the local community and this gives the centre a way to have direct contact with people living in and around Botany.”
Botany Town Centre Senior Marketing Manager Desiree Clark says, “It is great to be able to house Botany FM at our centre and be part of this great community initiative. It’s a landmark launch and a real adventure for us, and it will give our retailers and local businesses a great opportunity to connect with the local and wider community about their services.”
The station will be manned during shopping hours and will broadcast 24 hours a day. Botany FM will feature a community bulletin board for local sports groups, churches and organisations to announce events and news. Anyone interested in presenting on the show, offering news tips, or just wanting too participate is welcome to contact the station located in Botany Town Centre’s Fountain Court South.
