Kaingaroa death

A man is dead after the car he was driving left the road and struck a power pole near Kaingaroa in the far north.

The crash occurred at 2.22am on SH10 near the intersection with Pairatahi Road, east of Awanui.

No other vehicles appear to be involved and initial indications are of a loss of control on a left hand bend.

Serious crash investigators are at the scene and the road is open to traffic.

Kaitaia police are attempting to contact next of kin and a further release will be made once they have been notified.

UPDATE

The man who died when his car crashed at about 2.20am this morning at the intersection of State Highway 10 with Pairatahi Road, has been named.

He was Brent Maurice O'CONNOR, aged 40, from Kaitaia.
