Fatal crash on Waitakere Road

2.16am - A section of Waitakere Road has been closed as police and emergency services deal with a fatal crash.

Police were called just before 1.30am after a car left the road and struck a power pole bringing lines down. The sole occupant of the car, a man, died at the scene.

Diversions are in place on the northern side of Waitakere Road at Kay and Northfield Roads.

The Harbour Bridge-based Police Serious Crash team is investigating and will make a further release when more information is known.

5.49am - Police have completed the scene examination of the earlier reported fatal crash on Waitakere Road.
Fire Police are manning diversions as the final road clearance is completed. This should take a further 30 minutes.

Lines contractors estimate it will take up to three hours to reinstate the damaged pole and restore service to the area. During this time partial closures may be required and motorists are requested to take care as the work is carried out.
