The Christmas spirit is well and truly alive in the Wairarapa, with a generous member of the community donating enough money to provide four deserving families with food parcels today.

The man, who doesn't wish to be identified, donated a sum of money to Wairarapa Police this morning, telling staff that he and his wife wanted to make Christmas a bit brighter for some local families, who simply couldn't afford to do it themselves this year.

Wairarapa Police Iwi Liaison Officer Constable Nathan Riwai-Couch, known as Constable Chopper says after speaking to some local social service agencies, four very deserving families were identified and have this afternoon received a food parcel, with some much-needed items for Christmas.

"I am really grateful to have delivered these parcels this afternoon on behalf of this very generous member of our community, which will certainly help take the pressure off some families who aren't in the position to do too much celebrating this Christmas."

Constable Chopper says one kind gesture by a caring couple in our community has meant a much happier Christmas for a number of local children this year.
