The concept plan for the Waiuku Sports Park has been finalised. Franklin District Council has decided to display the finalised concept plan in the Waiuku Service Centre and Library building so everyone has a chance to find out about this exciting project.

“We had the draft concept plan on display in August and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. The Sports Park is an exciting project that many people in the community have helped shape. This is their opportunity to see the results,” says Franklin District Council Parks Officer, Greg Lowe.

Work is still continuing on some parts of the concept. For example the possibility of the proposed Waiuku Aquatic Facility is still being fully investigated by interested local residents. Council also has to finalise the location of the proposed connector road and the ways in which the stormwater in the proposed future residential areas surrounding the park will be collected and treated.

“No concept plan will look identical to the finished site and there may be the odd change or tweak, however the concept plan shows what you can expect to see growing and developing over the next few years,” says Greg.

Franklin District Council is currently developing memorandum of understandings with the other land owners (Waiuku College and the Waiuku Rugby Club) to ensure a shared vision and way forward into the future. Landscaping work is expected to start before July 2008.

Franklin District Council continues to welcome feedback, please contact Greg Lowe on 237 1355 for further information.
