WELLINGTON CITY

Wellington Police are investigating an aggravated robbery at The Corner Bar & Cafe in Kilbirnie yesterday morning.

Shortly before 9am, a 21 year old female employee was alone at The Corner Bar & Cafe preparing to open, when she was approached by two men, one armed with a crowbar.

Detective Sergeant Fleur De Bes of the Wellington City CIB says the men demanded money and made off with a sum of money, including a substantial amount of two dollar coins.

"The pair left in a waiting silver 2002 Honda Civic station wagon, which drove up Rongotai Road and into Queens Drive."

She says the vehicle (registration number FBQ52) was reported stolen yesterday, from the Waterloo railway station in Lower Hutt.

The offenders are both described as Maori or Pacific Islanders, one was bigger and taller than the other and both had the lower part of their faces concealed with a dark coloured piece of material.

Witnesses have described one of the offenders as wearing a dark coloured cap and dark clothing, with black gloves and was carrying a dark sports bag. The other was wearing a woollen beanie, possibly red, black gloves, and a dirty-looking light coloured hooded sweatshirt, carrying a crowbar.

"We are keen to hear from anyone who may have seen this vehicle around 9am this morning, parked outside The Corner Bar & Cafe or in the wider Wellington area since the incident. Anyone with information should phone Police on (04) 381 2000 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
