Police scour Great Barrier Island
Auckland City Police are scouring Great Barrier Island in the Hauraki Gulf for a male whom they want to question about an alleged serious assault at a residential address.
A Police Search and Rescue team is combing the Claris area on Great Barrier. Members of the Armed Offenders Squad are present.
Police went to the Great Barrier address at about midnight last night after reports that a man had been seriously assaulted with a weapon. The victim was airlifted to Auckland Hospital where his condition remains stable.
A female family associate who was present inside the house at the time of the attack is reported missing. It is feared that she has been abducted.
With nightfall there is increasing concern for her safety and well being. The weather has since deteriorated. It has been raining heavily.
Police are determined to locate the missing woman and her attacker.
The search has been called off for the night. It will continue at first light Saturday.
