NORTHLAND

The main roads between Auckland and Northland, SH16 and SH1 are both closed due to a variety of weather related conditions. People are asked to postpone travel between Auckland and Northland until further notice.

SH2 at Mangatawhiri is closed due to flooding.

There is no access between Whakatane from Tauranga. The only road still open between Rotorua and Whakatane is the Rotoma Hills but that has numerous slips that reduce the road to one lane in several areas. Local officers describe the road conditions as treacherous. They further advise that any travel to and from Whakatane be postponed until further notice.

SH36 between Rotorua and Tauranga is closed.

There are further numerous localised slips and flooded areas and anyone considering travelling in the upper North Island should first check that the roads are open.

Anyone who must travel are asked to extermely careful as road conditions generally are treacherous.
