Court Martial Appeal Court Judge appointed

John Billington QC has been appointed a Judge of the Court Martial Appeal Court, Attorney-General Christopher Finlayson announced today.

Mr Billington joined the New Zealand Army in 1969 as Second Lieutenant in the Royal New Zealand Artillery 16th Field Regiment. He later graduated from Victoria University with a LLB, joined the independent bar in 1989 and was appointed a Queen’s Counsel in 1996. He has extensive experience in the criminal law and his principal areas of practice include administrative law, corporate and commercial, defamation and serious fraud.

Mr Billington is also a member of the Arbitrators’ and Mediators’ Institute of New Zealand.
