Hamilton City Libraries celebrate NZ Book Month

Hamilton City Libraries will be celebrating NZ Book Month will a series of free events throughout March.

Hamilton City Libraries has worked in collaboration with Wintec, University of Waikato and other interested parties to coordinate the series, with three of the events taking place at Garden Place Library.

Hamilton City Libraries acting community programmes manager Bryony Walker said the series is a chance for local residents to engage in the national NZ Book Month initiative.

“This is a great opportunity for people to get up close with authors and learn all about books, e-books and reading in general,” she said.

The events include:

• 3 March, 6.30pm at Garden Place Library: Chick Lit and Sci-Fi – Bestselling fiction authors Michelle Holman and Russell Kirkpatrick talk about their work.
• 10 March, 6.30pm at Wintec House Long Room, Wintec: What makes a good Kiwi book – A panel of experts (author Michelle Holman, editor Suzanne Wilson and NZ Post Book Awards judges Stephen Stratford and Hamish Wright) discuss what makes a great kiwi book.
• 17 March, 6.30pm at Garden Place Library: Captain Cook’s GPS – Distinguished writers John Robson and Joan Druett talk about their work on Captain Cook.
• 24 March, 6.30pm at Central Library, University of Waikato: Click, touch, turn: The future of the book – A panel of experts (Print House CEO Brett Phillips, associate professor in computer science David Bainbridge, librarian Alistair Lamb and Veronica Liesaputa) discuss e-books and the future of the book.
• 31 March, 6.30pm at Garden Place Library: Be a Sport – Author talk by top sports writer and editor Bob Howitt.
