Total recorded crime for Wellington District lowest since 2005
Annual crime statistics released today show recorded crime in the Wellington District dropped 7.8% in 2010.
Acting Wellington District Commander Inspector Richard Chambers says total recorded crime for the District, per head of population, is the lowest it has been since 2005.
The categories across the district where recorded offences fell the most in the 2010 calendar year include Illicit drug offences (-19.4%) and Public Order offences
(-15.0%).
Inspector Chambers says, "This is a great opportunity to thank Wellington Police District staff for their commitment and dedication. This is a result that all can be proud of."
At a national level, recorded offences dropped 5.6% - or 25,000 in total. New Zealand's resident population rose by just over one percent during the period, meaning recorded offences per head of population dropped by 6.7%.
