Taupo man dies in hunting accident on rural property

A 64 year old man has been found dead as a result of what is believed to be an accident, while hunting alone on his own rural property on the outskirts of Taupo. Police believe the accident occurred at some time before 11am this morning.
With his family's permission, he has been formally named by Taupo Police as Roger Kirk.
Mr Kirk's body was found by a neighbour in a block of pine trees on Mr Kirk's property.
The Officer in Charge of the Taupo Police CIB, Detective Senior Sergeant Todd Pearce, says the initial Police inquiry indicates that Mr Kirk accidentally shot himself, possibly during a fall.
Detective Senior Sergeant Pearce says the death has now been referred to the Coroner.
