Police were busy in Christchurch on Friday night dealing with large numbers of Boy Racers in the city.

The District Road Policing Manager, Inspector Derek Erasmus, said 'Police targeted dangerous vehicles and driving resulting in large numbers of prosecutions.'

There were over 50 officers working on the operation tonight including Court Bailiffs and Land Transport New Zealand staff.

'We are expecting increased numbers of cars on the road on Saturday so will be adding to staff numbers for tonight's part of the operation'

While full figures will not be available until a press release on Sunday morning, at least 12 cars were seized by Court Bailiffs for unpaid fines and over 20 were written off the road due to their dangerous condition.

Of interest was a car stopped which had different number plates on it's front and rear. The rear plate had outstanding fines of $20,000 associated with it, and the front plate $10,000. 'The driver was obviously not a rocket scientist!' The vehicle was seized by Bailiffs.
