Appointment of General Manager Development

Mr Kevin Kelly has provisionally been appointed as the General Manager Development for the New Zealand Police.

The appointment was announced today by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Viv Rickard.

Mr Kelly has been Acting General Manager Development since June 2010 following the appointment of the previous incumbent, Assistant Commissioner Grant Nicholls, to the role of Assistant Commissioner Specialist Operations.

The GM Development oversees the Strategy, Policy, Business Planning, Legal, Performance and Quality Improvement functions of NZ Police.

Mr Kelly has wide experience of working in the New Zealand Public Service. His substantive role in NZ Police is that of National Manager Policy and Legal Services, a role he has had since September 2009. Previous senior positions include: National Manager Legal Services NZ Police, General Manager Policy with Land Information NZ, Manager Radio Spectrum and Broadcasting Policy with MED.

"Kevin Kelly will bring a strong range of intellectual and critical thinking skills to the GM Development role," said Deputy Commissioner Rickard.
