The ASG Parent and Child Show Wellington 2011 has been cancelled due to reduced exhibitor numbers caused in part by the Christchurch earthquake.
All funds received from exhibitors will be refunded immediately.
Meanwhile, stand bookings for the ASG Parent and Child Show Auckland 2011 are actually progressing extremely well, with the show already 75% booked.
“We recognise that this cancellation will come as a big disappointment to our loyal exhibitors and visitors and we want to take this opportunity to apologise for the inconvenience it will cause to everyone concerned,” says Dona White, CEO North Port Events.
“Several factors have played into this decision, the most important of which is the 22 February Christchurch earthquake. This tragic event has had many far-reaching effects, including forcing several key South Island-based exhibitors to pull out. It has also had a detrimental effect on business confidence across the country, which has led prospective exhibitors to reassess their involvement.
“Taking these factors into account, we realised that we had to make a call about whether to go ahead based on our judgement concerning the show’s chances of success. In our opinion, it was better to cancel now rather than go ahead and risk failing to deliver the kind of show that our visitors and exhibitors deserve,” says Ms White.
“We would like to emphasise at this point that, by contrast, stand sales for this year’s Auckland show (30 Sep to 2 Oct, ASB Showgrounds) are going extremely well, with nearly 75% of available sites already sold.”
A decision about whether to go ahead with the ASG Parent and Child Show Wellington 2012 will be made later on this year.
