Pedestrian receiving medical treatment after being hit by Police patrol bike
A 61 year old female pedestrian is receiving medical treatment for minor head and shoulder injuries after she was hit by a Police officer on a patrol bike yesterday evening.
Sergeant Graeme Bergh of the Wellington Strategic Traffic Unit says at around 6:45pm, a male officer was heading to a breakdown on Ngauranga Gorge with his lights and siren on.
“At the intersection of Customhouse Quay and Johnston Street, it appears a group of pedestrians ended up in the path of the oncoming officer on the patrol bike and a 61 year old woman was hit.”
Sergeant Bergh says the woman is currently being treated at Wellington Hospital for minor injuries. The officer was unhurt.
“The Police Serious Crash Unit attended the scene and has begun an investigation into the crash, which will determine what has occurred.”
