Good news for dog and cat owners wanting to have their pets spayed and neutered.

Hutt City Council’s Animal Service Centre will be hosting a low cost spay and neuter service from 1 May until later this month.

The surgeries will be carried out by the Wellington SPCA inside their specialised caravan.

Animal Services Manager Les Dalton is encouraging dog and cat owners to take advantage of the opportunity to have their pets spayed and neutered cheaply.

“There is no charge for this service other than a donation or koha, which makes it affordable and available for everyone.”

Mr Dalton says there are a number of reasons why owners should spay or neuter their pets.

“Having your pets de-sexed stops unwanted breeding, and reduces urine marking, aggressiveness, roaming, and the risk of some forms of cancer.”

An appointment must be made to take advantage of this service by calling 570 6666.
