111 services operating well, despite network issue
A significant failure on the FX network this afternoon has caused Police Communications Centres to move to manual processing for some of its procedures.
Phone calls from the public to the 111 service were not impacted by the network failure.
Superintendent Kelvin Powell, Acting National Manager Police Communications Centres says while the failure is significant there has been no adverse impact for callers to Police.
"We have back-up procedures in place to deal with situations like this.
"Police has pre-existing continuity plans in place for network failures of this kind, they are regularly tested and they have worked well on this occasion.
"We want to assure people that their access to the 111 network was not compromised by this outage," he says.
The network issues were impacting on approximately 130 police stations around the country, three communications centres and Police National Headquarters.
Police were working with suppliers to fully restore information and communication technology services as soon as possible.
