Residents and businesses in Okato are being urged to not use any water unless it is absolutely necessary.
The town’s reservoir is down to less than 30 per cent capacity after a power outage prevented water being treated overnight.
“We brought in a generator to the Okato Treatment Plant this morning but water is being used almost as quickly as we can treat it,” says Manager Operations Graeme Pool.
“We need Okato people to conserve as much water as they can. Don’t flush toilets unless they have to, don’t use washing machines or dish washers, and turn off any running taps.
“We’ll advise when the situation has returned to normal.”
The power outage was caused by high winds overnight.
