State Highway 2 near State Highway 25 turn off

05:45 - A truck and a car have collided on State Highway 2 just west of the intersection with State Highway 25 in the Waikato, resulting in the death of one of the occupants of the car.

2 other people in the car are also badly injured.

A local detour has been put in place using Steen Road to bypass the accident scene. Steen Road has a one lane bridge on it, so it is anticipated that there could be heavy traffic congestion at this point.

Police suggest that traffic takes a wider detour from State Highway 2 at Mangatawhiri using Mangatangi Road, Miranda Road, and onto State Highway 25 ( or reverse ).

Police and other emergency services are at the scene of the crash, and the Serious Crash Unit is working to determine the cause of the crash.
