Body discovered in burning car

A police investigation is underway following the discovery of a body in a burning car this morning.

About 7.20am Police received reports of smoke coming from Waitarere Beach Forest. A car was discovered on fire on a track within the forest, and the body was inside the car. The deceased is believed to be a man.

It is too early to say whether the death is suspicious. It is being treated as unexplained and an investigation is ongoing.
