KAITAIA

Kaitaia’s i-SITE has won this year’s Intercity Group “Agent of the Year” award for outstanding sales in the Visitor Information Network “medium” category.

The national award was presented at a recent i-SITE New Zealand conference in Rotorua, making a “hat trick” for the tourism office which has taken the top award for three consecutive years – twice in the “small” category and once in the “mid”.

The Kaitaia team also gained awards in Maori tourism training; experiencing marae stays, workshops and site visits to upskill them in Maori protocols, pronunciation and understanding of the cultural significance of sites.

In presenting the awards to the winning team, Far North Mayor Yvonne Sharp said the Katiaia i-SITE was a consistent high performer that regularly punched above its weight in terms of outstanding customer service and sales volumes.

“Booking tickets to various destinations is just a small part of the work the team does to make our visitors feel welcome,” she said. “They become part of the visitor experience, leaving a lasting impression of warmth and hospitality which has earned them an excellent reputation in the tourism industry.”
