Wairarapa Police urge residents to be security conscious following spate of rural burglaries
Wairarapa Police are urging residents to be security conscious following a recent spate of rural burglaries.
Over the past month, a number of burglaries in Carterton and Masterton have been reported to Police, where motorbikes and tools have been taken.
Detective Tracey Calder of the Wairarapa CIB says the majority of property stolen has been from sheds and garages.
"We are aware of around 10 bikes that have been stolen so far, including children's' bikes, four wheel bikes and other motor cross bikes."
Wairarapa Police have also had a higher than usual number of scrap metal thefts, in and around Masterton and Carterton.
"Some of these thefts have been similar to the other rural burglaries where tools and bikes have also been targeted and we're urging residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to Police as soon as possible."
Detective Calder urges residents who see any suspicious vehicles to try and take down a registration number and phone Wairarapa Police on (06) 360 0300 or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
