Homicide investigation launched in Otaki

Police are investigating a homicide as a result of a shooting incident in Otaki Beach yesterday (Sunday, 8 May).

At approximately 4.10pm Police were called to an address in Otaki beach where a 23-year-old woman had been shot. The woman was flown to Wellington Hospital but died in the early hours of this morning.

A homicide investigation is now underway and Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the Ngaio Street area around 4pm yesterday.

A 26-year-old man is due to appear in the Levin District Court today for firearms related offences.

Police will not be commenting on the woman's injuries as a post mortem is yet to be carried out.

The woman's name will be released once family members have been advised.
