Brooklands Zoo has a new addition to its capuchin monkey population.

Dixie and Boo have become second-time parents of a monkey whose gender is as yet unknown.

“It’s still early days as a newborn’s survival in a troop can be touch and go, but Dixie is being a fantastic mum – very protective and nurturing,” says Technical Officer Zoo Eve Cozzi.

Dixie and Boo’s first offspring, Macaco, was born in September 2009, while their latest addition was born on 28 April.

Sixteen-year-old Dixie was transferred to Brooklands Zoo from Hamilton Zoo in 2008, whereas Boo was born at Brooklands Zoo nearly 10 years ago.

A naming competition will be held in a few months’ time for the baby capuchin.
