QUEENSTOWN

Queenstown’s Coronet Peak and The Remarkables ski areas are launching exciting ski and snowboard programmes as part of a new ‘Performance Centre’.

The Performance Centre is designed to provide ‘skill sessions’ for people who want to ski or ride at a higher level, improve on existing abilities and push boundaries. The programmes will be held across both ski fields and are suitable for adults and children aged from eight upwards.

New programmes include the Peak Performance Junior Team, Parklife School Holiday Camp, Parklife Junior Saturday Team and Introduction to Parklife. Revamped existing programmes include Parklife Junior Team, the hugely popular Women’s Ski Workshops, High Performance Programmes and the 10 Saturdays Programme.

Performance Centre Manager Toby Arnott said the introduction of the centre meant there was a facility available in Queenstown where people could access some of the world’s top coaches and a consistent training programme monitoring progress throughout the season.

“The idea is to provide a platform for people to develop and grow their skill level over a period of time with the consistency of the same small group and one highly qualified coach throughout,” said Mr Arnott.

“Training camps that are part of the Performance Centre enable skiers and riders to hook up with a group of like-minded people with similar goals so everyone can heaps of fun getting to the next level of ability and beyond!

“We see it being particularly popular with local kids who we want to use the centre programmes as a basis from which they can grow,’ he said. “Many of the sessions are held over an extended period of time, some up to 23 days.”

The Performance Centre team will be hosting an information evening for everyone interested in the programmes, including parents and kids, on May 18 at 6pm at the Queenstown Snow Centre in Duke Street.
