Kidnapped college student seriously assaulted

Three Nelson College students are in court facing serious charges today following a kidnapping and brutal assault on another student on Thursday 5 May, 2011.

The victim, a 16 year-old Nelson College student, was attacked on Thursday evening and the incident was initially reported to the Nelson Police as a complaint of assault and robbery.

The victim received extensive bruising to his head body from repeated punches and kicks he received during the prolonged assault.

A police investigation, assisted by Nelson College, identified a number of students involved in the incident.

Two 16 year old students and a 17 year old have been arrested and jointly charged in relation to the matter. The victim and offenders are of the same nationality.

The two 16 year old youths have been charged with Kidnapping, and Injuring with Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm, and the 17 year old youth has been charged with Kidnapping. All will be appearing in the Nelson Youth Court during the afternoon of the 10 May, 2011.

Police are not looking for anyone else in relation to the matter but are keen to hear from anyone who has information in relation to the assault and kidnapping.
