QUEENSTOWN

With just a little over a month until the chairlift switches are flicked on, Queenstown’s alpine paradise is welcoming the first real sign that winter has arrived.

The Remarkables ski area has received 15cms of wind-affected snow over the last two days as it prepares for an epic season.

Ski area manager Ross Lawrence said that with cold temperatures and the forecast of more snow his team was amped.

“There’s a definite buzz on the mountain amongst staff,” he said.

“We open in a little over a month’s time and certainly at this stage a snow fall like this gets us all very excited. We’re all looking forward to the season ahead.”

The Remarkables ski area is scheduled for opening on Saturday June 18.
