Silversteam Stationary and Post Shop Aggravated Robbery

Upper Hutt Police are seeking witnesses to the armed hold up of the Chatsworth Stationary and Post shop Tuesday evening.
Shortly after 5.00pm two men, one of which, was armed with a firearm burst into the store from the carpark entrance off Kiln Street.
The lone female storekeeper was threatened by the men and told that they would 'shoot her' if she didn't do as they said. She was forced to lie down on the floor while the men stole an undetermined sum of cash from the cash register.
The victim was caught completely by surprise and was understandably very shaken and upset after the men left.
The two men wore disguises over their face and were both believed to be mature adult males of medium build and quite tall in height.
The two men made their escape from the area in a stolen gold coloured Mazda 'Premacy' registration number BKU412. This vehicle was described by some witnesses as a small van or 'people mover' in shape and it was recovered by Police soon after the robbery abandoned under the Silverstream railway bridge. That Mazda was reported to Wellington Police as having been stolen from an Oriental Bay address earlier in the day.
Witnesses who were in the Silverstream bridge area have told the Police that they saw a second vehicle leave that area and Police believe that the offenders probably got into this vehicle after abandoning the Mazda.
Detective Sergeant Tony Heathcote is appealing for anyone who might have seen this car described as a red station wagon possibly a early to mid 1990's Holden Commodore travelling north on the Upper Hutt River Road at about 5.15pm at speed to contact them. They are also very keen to speak to anyone who thinks that they might have seen the stolen Mazda Premacy anytime prior to the Stationary store robbery.
