QUEENSTOWN

It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing...the major programmed concert event for the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival (June 24 – 3 July) is all about world class jazz.

After years of hosting a variety of music genres the southern hemisphere’s biggest winter party goes back to its roots, and in true festival form has secured a ‘stellar’ line up of New Zealand and international acts to perform at the Stoneleigh Jazz Night at Skyline Complex on Saturday 2 July.

Topping the bill as one of the country’s most successful contemporary jazz exports is Nathan Haines, who’ll perform his phenomenal ‘Heaven and Earth’ show before taking to the turntables for a rocking DJ set.

Meanwhile songstresses LA Mitchell and Sacha Vee are set to get the upstairs ‘jazz lounge’ swinging before funksters Oval Office take things up another notch. Completing the line-up is Invercargill’s Rythmonyx and one of New Zealand’s most in demand jazz – junk - dub bands, Tahuna Breaks.

Festival Director Simon Green, a trained professional singer and musician himself, said the programme’s famous jazz night was poised for an incredible night.

“The Winter Festival looks to support Kiwi arts, music and culture and the team works hard to secure nothing less than first-class acts,” he said.

“For music lovers or those wanting to sit back and enjoy supper over some live entertainment I highly recommend this evening to anyone.”

Tickets holders to the Stoneleigh Jazz Night can choose to enjoy the evening’s entertainment with a delicious supper ($111) or simply just enjoy the music ($89). Music starts at 7.30pm (Skyline Gondola opens at 7pm).

The Southern Hemisphere’s biggest winter party, the American Express Queenstown Winter Festival returns from 24 June to 3 July for ten days of winter fun in Queenstown New Zealand.

Tens of thousands of locals and visitors are expected to take to Queenstown’s streets and ski slopes to celebrate the official start of winter with heaps of on-mountain action, outrageous, fun and glamorous events from street parties, parades and fireworks to live concerts, comedy and theatre.
