Nelson crash victim's name released

Police today released the name of the man killed in a collision on the Moutere Highway on Sunday, at the intersection with Golden Hills Road.

He was Richard Nicholas John MacKay, aged 39, from Foxhill.

Mr MacKay was a passenger in a grey Mercedes Benz which failed to give way at the intersection and collided with a truck and trailer.

The driver of the car is still in a critical condition in Wellington Hospital's intensive care unit.

Police are still investigating the accident and are again appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Detective Bruce McLachlan said the truck driver thought he had seen another car at the intersection and police would like to speak to that person, who they believe may have witnessed the impact.

Several members of the public have come forward with information about the Mercedes prior to the accident.
