MANUKAU CITY

Counties Manukau Police brought a significant drug operation in a Clover Park residence to an abrupt halt last week thanks to an anonymous tip-off from a member of the public via Crimestoppers.

Police seized a total of $31,594.70 in cash, 304 cannabis plants (growing hydroponically) and 90 grams of methamphetamine from the residence. They also seized two firearms, one of which was loaded, and two large hunting knives.

Two men, aged 38 and 34, have been arrested and charged with various drug offending offences and will be appearing in the Manukau District Court this month.

Detective Michael Bushell says "This is a great example of how well Crimestoppers can work alongside Police to stem the drug trade."

"Clandestine laboratories are dangerous operations and it is particularly concerning when we discover them in residential areas where there are young families nearby."

"Illicit drug-use causes widespread harm in our communities and is strongly linked to other criminal activities."

"We urge people to proactively come forward with information about criminal activity occurring within their neighbourhoods or networks."

Anyone who has information about drug manufacture or supply, or other criminal activities, can contact their local Police station or anonymously call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
