Hamilton school fire deliberately lit

Hamilton Police and Fire Service fire safety officers investigating the overnight blaze at the Fairfield Intermediate School have determined the fire was deliberately lit.

Detective Senior Sergeant Karl Thornton of the Hamilton CIB said it was too early to comment on what caused the fire other than to say it appeared an accelerant was not used.

"Our enquiries are continuing and I would encourage anyone with information on who started the fire to contact Hamilton Police on 07 858 6200, your call will be treated with confidence.
