MARTON

A man has been killed in a road crash in Marton this morning.

The 59-year-old man from the Rangitïkei area was the driver of a Toyota Rav 4 heading north along Williamsons Line around 6.20am. At the give-way intersection with Makirikiri Road the Toyota appears to have driven into the path of a Nissan Terrano travelling east.

While the Fire Service freed the trapped man from the vehicle the Palmerston North rescue helicopter was dispatched but sadly the man died at the scene. A dog inside the Toyota was also killed.

The driver of the Nissan, a man from Wanganui, was taken to Wanganui Hospital with minor injuries.

The Serious Crash Investigation Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.

Anyone with information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact Senior Constable Karl Williams at Marton Police on 06 327 6555.
