GLOW 'light your bike night' is happening at Huatoki Plaza this Friday (17 June)!

The public are encouraged to come along with their bikes from 5.30pm to 6.30pm, and then take part in a glow ride through town and along the Coastal Walkway.

New Plymouth bike shops and bicycle suppliers will be in the plaza with bike lights and hi-viz gear at discount prices, while mountain biker Matt Foster gives extreme bike demonstrations on a specially-constructed scaffold.

North Taranaki Cycle Advocates (NTCA) Graeme Lindup says with winter here, lighting up is more important at this time of year than any other.

“Riding is a great thing to do day or night, however for the homeward journey at dusk or in the evening you need to be illuminated,” says Mr Lindup.

“This GLOW event is the perfect opportunity for bike riders to look over the full range of bike lights available and get a good deal – and improve their safety on the road.”

Members of the NTCA and New Plymouth District Council’s Let’s Go Project have organised the event to ensure that more people in the district are well lit and safe on their bikes this winter.

“As well as cheap lights and bike gear, we have heaps of glow sticks for the kids to bling their own rides in readiness for the glow ride leaving from Huatoki Plaza at 6.30pm,” says Sustainable Transport Coordinator Nathaniel Benefield.
