ASB Chief Operating Officer Russell Jones was announced the winner of the 2011 CIO of the Year Award at last night’s CIO Summit dinner and annual awards ceremony at the Sky City Convention Centre in Auckland.

This prestigious award celebrates Mr Jones’ success and recognises the efforts of the whole ASB team to transform technology functions across the business.

“Our people and culture are why we lead in technology and this award was earned by a unified technology team committed to delivering the innovations for which we are renowned,” says Mr Jones.

“We’re investing further in our technology team development, to grow capabilities and deliver a significant programme of work over the next five years.

“ASB has already had some great firsts over the past year with our Virtual Branch on Facebook and innovative products like Home Equity Release and Save the Change.

“And we are determined to continue to be the first to deliver innovative solutions for our customers and fundamental improvements to the way New Zealanders bank.”

The Judges commented that in a complex and challenging environment, Russell has led a significant organisational and cultural change in one of the largest IT teams in New Zealand – highlighting Russell’s intellect, focus and ability to influence at all levels of the organisation both in New Zealand and Internationally.

Judges also noted that Russell has led the development of a further change program that will see ASB transform its system environment over the coming three to five years.
