Wellington businesses are getting extra assistance to reduce energy use and costs - Council funding to top up a Government incentive scheme.

We're working with the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA) to provide additional funding to local businesses under the Energising Business programme.

So what's on offer? EECA will pay up to a third of the cost of an energy assessment for your company and help you fund the changes recommended. On top of that, we will provide up to $1,000 more per business. Companies with an energy spend under $300,000 a year per site are eligible.

The Museum Hotel will be the first local business to have its energy use assessed under the new scheme.

Mayor Celia Wade-Brown, says the partnership will help local businesses reduce their costs and energy use - one of the things our award-winning 2010 Climate Change Action Plan promises to do.

"We were thrilled to receive a top prize at the recent Green Ribbon Awards for our action plan and efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions but there is much more to do. Partnerships like this are essential for Wellington if we're to achieve our ambitious climate change goals and this is a great opportunity for businesses to reduce costs and boost their environmental record."

If you're interested, contact one of the service providers listed by EECA. They will check you're eligible and help you through the programme.
