Four people have been arrested and charged with a number of offences following the execution of two search warrants in the Carterton area yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Warwick Burr of the Wairarapa Police says the search warrants were in connection to a number of burglaries in and around the Carterton area over the past eight months.

"The warrants executed yesterday were the combination of extensive enquiry work carried out by Police, both in the Wairarapa and other parts of the lower North Island."

As a result of the warrants, two motorcycles, one motor vehicle and one car motor, as well as miscellaneous property were recovered.

Senior Sergeant Burr says, "Many of these burglaries had occurred in rural areas and targeted sheds and garages and motorcycles were often stolen."

All four men arrested have appeared in the Masterton District Court today.

A 25 year old Carterton man was remanded in custody on four charges of burglary, arson and unlawful taking.

A 24 year old Carterton man and a 22 year old Palmerston North man have been remanded on bail with strict conditions, on charges of burglary and unlawful taking.

A 22 year old Carterton male has been charged with possession of cannabis, driving while disqualified, dangerous driving, burglary and unlawful taking. He has also been remanded on bail with strict conditions.

Senior Sergeant Burr says Police are continuing enquiries into these burglaries in and around Carterton over the past eight months and further charges are likely.

"In the meantime we urge anyone with any information which may assist to contact Constable Gill Flower of the Masterton Crime Control Unit on 06 370 0344 or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
