WELLINGTON CITY

Nau mai, haere mai! Maori Language Week, or Te Wiki o te Reo Maori, kicked off yesterday, and there are a whole lot of events going on around the city to celebrate it.

This year's theme is manaakitanga. This means being a good host and making people feel welcome in your company - a very important aspect of Māori custom and identity.

Highlights in Wellington, or Te Whanganui ā Tara, include:

Me Heke ki Pōneke Konohete - Lunchtime Concert
12.30pm - 2.00pm, today (5 July)
Soundings Theatre, Te Papa

Our local college kapa haka groups will display their manaakitanga and entertain you. FREE. Get in quick - there are limited seats available.

Te Awa-ā-Taia Kanikani - Roller Disco
6.30pm - 9.00pm, Rāmere / Friday 8 July
Kilbirnie Recreation Centre

Put on your skates and enjoy a night full of fun manaakitanga activities for the whole family. There are limited numbers of skates / blades for hire. Gold coin donation.
