Missing possom hunter

CANTERBURY

At about 11.--pm om Wednesday 6th July police were notified of a missing possum hunter in the Ashley Gorge area of Canterbury. He was a 80 year old male who regularly traps possoms in the area.
He had entered the gorge area at abot 7.00am and was due out before dusk. A local farmer notified police that he had not returned when he noticed the mans vehicle was still parked near his house.

Police immediately started a search of the area with 4 search teams along with 2 civilian and 1 police dog team.

The trap line was located and a pair gloves that are though to belong to the missing male have been also found.

At daylight today the number of search teams increased to 7 along with the dogs and a helicopter. A total of approximately 35 people are involved in the search for thius person.

As at 12.00 noon on the 7th July there has been no sighting of the male.  Police are concerned for the welfare of this male as it is cold, windy and raining in the area.  

As there is no radio or cell phone coverage in the area, the next update will be later this afternoon.
