Over 400 Netballers, coaches and officials will gather in Nelson next week to take part in the NZ Age Group U19 and U21 Netball Championships at Saxton Field from July 18-21.

Netball Tasman will host the 24 regional teams, 16 of which are entered into the U19 and eight into the U21 competition. Around 100 games will be played with pride throughout the week, with the final being played at 6.30pm on Thursday afternoon.

Five players who were part of a 2011 ANZ Championship team (Tactix: Joanna Trip, Ellen Halpenny Steel: Sophia Fenwick, Te Paea Selby-Rickit and Pulse: Brooke Leaver) will be competing at this tournament. The U19/U21 Age Group is a prime selection ground for those ANZ Championship coaches looking for new upcoming talent to add to their franchise teams.

Netball New Zealand Emerging Talent selector Leigh Gibbs says the competition is an imperative part of the Netball New Zealand calendar.

“The NZ Age Group Championships play a vital part in developing and showcasing young talent on the court,” she said.

“It creates opportunities for those hoping to take their Netball to the next level.” Gibbs said.

The tournament runs from Monday 18th - Thursday 21st July. The full draw is available at www.mynetball.co.nz, which will be updated with results regularly after the conclusion of each round.
