35 year old man arrested in connection to Naenae incident involving three female Police staff

WELLINGTON CITY

A 35 year old man has been arrested following an incident in Naenae at around 11 o'clock this morning where a male passenger in a vehicle pointed what appeared to be a firearm at two female police officers and a female police employee travelling in an unmarked patrol car.

Acting Lower Hutt Area Commander Inspector Shane Cotter says the male passenger had moments earlier been gesturing at the female officers on Waddington Drive.

"The vehicle was located about an hour later and was stopped by armed Police. The 35 year old was subsequently arrested. We have searched two addresses in Naenae in relation to this incident however a firearm has not been recovered at this time."

Inspector Cotter says Police are supporting the three Police staff members involved in this incident.

"Police treat any incident of this nature very seriously. The actions of these staff should be commended. They acted very calmly under threatening circumstances and managed to collected vital information which led to an early arrest."

The 35 year old man is in Police custody. Charges are pending.
