Hawke's Bay Fatal Crash

Emergency services are currently at the scene of a fatal crash on State Highway 2, approximately 2 minutes drive South of Waipawa (Hawke's Bay).

One person was killed after a Northbound stationwagon with 5 occupants collided head-on with a Southbound car at approximately 1.45am Monday. The driver (sole occupant) of the Southbound vehicle died at the scene.

At least 3 of the occupants of the Northbound vehicle have received serious injuries and will be transported to hospital, while the remaining occupants of that vehicle have less serious injuries.

It is too early for Police to determine the cause of the crash, however it appears one of the vehicles has crossed the centre line into the path of the other.

Police are still at the scene and will not be in a position to release any details regarding the victim until next of kin have been notified.
