Body of missing cyclist found

On the 3rd of October at 8.45 a.m. the body of missing man, John MACHEJEFSKI was located outside an address in Hokitika.

Mr. MACHJEFSKI, a Hokitika resident was located by a member of the public who contacted police and Search & Rescue Teams.

Mr. MACHEJEFSKI left his address at 5.15 p.m. last night to go on a warm up cycle ride before joining the Hokitika cycle club for their first evening race of the season, however he failed to arrive.

Police along with 30 volunteers have been searching through the night, and the search was scaled up this morning and was to include a fly over of the search area by Coast Wide Helicopters.

There appears to be no suspicious circumstances or any obvious injuries.

The cause of death is not yet known and the matter will be referred to the coroner
