Keep an eye out next week for information on how public transport will make it easier to travel in Taranaki during Rugby World Cup 2011.

New Plymouth District Council, Taranaki Regional Council and Tranzit Coachlines have prepared a transport plan that will benefit people in the region on both match days and match-free days.

“We’re finalising the details now and we’ll be releasing them on Wednesday next week,” says Manager Rugby World Cup Jenny Mills.

“Not only will there be shuttle buses between the city’s CBD and Stadium Taranaki plus public transport from outlying towns to the stadium on match days, but also we’ll be extending the hours of New Plymouth’s urban bus runs and changing their pricing after a certain time.

“It’s all about helping people get to where they’re going – whether it’s to the rugby or not – at a time when there will be thousands more people than usual in the district.”

NPDC has received a lot of queries from the public about how transport will be affected during Rugby World Cup. “If anything, the transport will be improved,” says Ms Mills.

Stadium Taranaki’s three matches are on 11 September (Ireland vs USA), 15 September (Russia vs USA) and 26 September (Wales vs Namibia).

Tickets are on sale through TSB Showplace and online at www.rugbyworldcup.com.
